Financing Sustainable Development Goals
As two thirds of the buildings that will make up the world's fastest growing cites by 2050 are yet to be built, it is now our chance to change the future. According to New Climate Economy, urban areas in sub-Saharan Africa will be home to 800 million more people in 2050 than 2014. All these people will live, work and study in buildings. The future growth in Africa represents a tremendous opportunity for stakeholders to reinvent the way we build - to benefit the economy, society and enable humanity an nature to thrive together.
Getting it right with cities has a significant potential, not just from a pure economic perspective but also from a social and environmental perspective. Getting it wrong is likely to be very costly economically, socially and environmentally.
The Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) has taken the lead to transform building practices in Kenya to a sustainable future; promoting a healthy and sustainable environment for the nation. The 2017 theme, Financing Sustainable Development Goals, targets the heart of sustainable development in Africa:

Green City Study Tour

World Green Building Council invites GBCs and government representatives to join a four-day study tour to Vancouver, Canada, a shining example of excellence in sustainable urban development. Vancouver is the winner of 2013 WorldGBC Government Leadership Award for Best Green Building Policy. The Green City Study Tour will allow participants to experience first-hand the net zero green buildings and the innovative districts that are making Vancouver’s vision to the be the greenest city in the world a reality, including the CIRS building at the University of British Columbia and the Olympic Village. A highlight of the tour will be an exclusive half-day roundtable with City of Vancouver representatives, including the Deputy Mayor, on the Greenest City 2020 Action Plan.
